LSRO's Reduced Risk Review Core Committee met for the third time at the Marriott Residence Inn, 7335 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda MD, on April 27-28, 2005. The Core Committee members present were Alwynelle Ahl, Ph.D., D.V.M., Elizabeth L. Anderson, Ph.D., Nancy L. Buc, Esq., Carroll E. Cross, M.D., Louis D. Homer, M.D., Ph.D., Joseph V. Rodricks, Ph.D., Emanuel Rubin, M.D., Richard C. Schwing, Ph.D., and Richard Windsor, M.S., Ph.D., M.P.H (3/24 only). The LSRO staff members present were Catherine St. Hilaire, Ph.D., Mike Falk, Ph.D., Daniel Byrd, Ph.D., D.A.B.T., Amy Brownawell, Ph.D., Kara Lewis, Ph.D., Keith Lenghaus, Ph.D., Paula Nixon, Ph.D and Carmen Mones, B.A.

The first full day of the meeting was comprised of an open meeting to solicit input on the Reduced Risk Review Project from the scientific community and other interested parties. The agenda consisted of several presentations by LSRO staff, keynote and featured speakers as well as a number of presentations by registered speakers. Slides from each of the presentations can be accessed from the Presentations page, with the exception of presentations by Drs. Lewtas and Zelikoff, who requested that they not be posted. The second day of the meeting was held in Executive Session and focused on Core Committee review of proposed State-of-the-Science Review Committees (SSRCs) and their associated Statements of Work.

Three SSRCs were recommended to be formed: Biological Effects Assessment (BEA), Exposure Assessment (EA), and Population Effects/Behavior Assessment (PEBA). Information on each of the SSRCs can be accessed by clicking on the preceding links.

The next meeting of the Core Committee is scheduled for July 14-15, 2005 on the FASEB Campus, 9650 Rockville Pike, Bethesda MD. The first part of the meeting (7/14, 8 am - 1 pm) is an information-gathering session which is open to the public and will consist of several presentations on proposed approaches for the scientific evaluation of proposed reduced-risk products.
