  The Exposure Assessment (EA) Committee met for the third time on December 13-14th in Bethesda. Members of the EA Committee in attendance were Jerold Last, Ph.D., Robert Orth, Ph.D., and William Waddell, M.D. Richard Dalby, Ph.D., attended a portion of the meeting. Louis Homer, M.D., Ph.D., Emanuel Rubin, M.D. and Elizabeth Anderson, Ph.D., members of the Core Committee, were also present. LSRO staff members Michael Falk, Ph.D., Kara Lewis, Ph.D., Catherine St. Hilaire, Ph.D., Daniel Byrd, Ph.D., and Karin French, B.A. attended the meeting. Carmen Mones, B.A. was present for a brief portion of the meeting. Gerhard Scherer, Ph.D. (ABF Analytisch-Biologisches Forschungslabor GmbH, Munich, Germany) and Roger Jenkins, Ph.D. (Formerly of Oak Ridge National Laboratory) made presentations during the information gathering portion of the meeting. Bruce Westerberg, Ph.D., Tobacco Business Development, Battelle Science and Technology International, attended the information gathering session.

Dr. Jenkins made a presentation on environmental tobacco smoke chemistry and human exposure.

Dr. Scherer made a presentation on biomarkers of environmental tobacco smoke exposure.

The overall meeting objective was to complete the evaluation of methods for assessing exposure to tobacco smoke and to integrate them into a framework for assessing the potential for risk reduction.
